They have two operating sashes that move up and down, offering ventilation from the top, bottom, or both ends at the same time. The two sashes open to allow for ventilation, will stay open at any point, and tilt inside the home for easy cleaning. Because they slide up and down instead of cranking out or sliding side to side, this style can safely hold air conditioning units and screens can be easily removed when necessary. Updated energy efficient models also minimize air leaks, preventing heat from escaping and cold air from entering during the winter months. What is the standard size of a double hung window?
There are no standard sizes as each home is different and built to a unique set of specifications. At Centennial, all of our products are custom manufactured to fit perfectly into your existing openings, which allows us to properly install your windows and improve their energy performance.
Which type of room is best for double hung windows?
This style is very versatile and work well in any home with a traditional feel — a craftsman style home is a great example. They are the perfect choice for bathrooms when manufactured with frosted glass. Frosting offers added privacy without cutting down on natural light and because they open at both the top and bottom, you can keep the bottom closed and open the top for ventilation!
How do I clean double hung windows?
To clean, start with it closed and spay one sash at a time with glass cleaner and wipe dry. To clean the outside, place a chair about a foot away from the wall where the window is located. Disengage the locks and open both the bottom and top sash 3 – 4 inches. Grasp the tilting mechanisms on the bottom sash and squeeze them together to disengage the window; if you give a gentle pull, the sash should tilt toward you. Lower the bottom sash onto the chair back and ensure it is resting securely. Spray the glass with glass cleaner and wipe dry. Repeat this process with the top sash resting it on the bottom sash. When finished, tilt the top sash up and gently push to lock it in place. Repeat this step with the bottom sash. Close and engage the locks.
